While layout is crucial for logos with K, the best ones fit their industry like a glove. Yours should, too. For example, Kia favors a horizontal oval badge that’s been the distinct format of the automotive industry. And then there’s Kodak’s square-bound K that’s classic and bold. Kmart’s circular badge is ready for the retail market, and Kickstarter’s flat icon is perfect in app interfaces. 

Your K logo design must be versatile, too, performing splendidly in color, grayscale, and reverse (white-on-dark) formats. It’s always good advice to test your logo in these formats before committing to a final design direction.

The color for your letter K design essentially hinges on your brand’s personality. While we always associate red with warmth and energy, Kellogg’s uses it to signal appetizing and a sense of homely comfort. Kia’s silver logo is an automotive classic, but can also signal the car brand’s marching order for innovation and technological precision. So, choose a color that tells your brand’s unique story.

Consider contrast in your letter K logo design, ensuring its angular arms are distinct and readable against any background. Otherwise, it’s back to the board until you get the K to pop on any touchpoint.

They say a logo with K lives or dies by typography. Can you imagine replacing Kia’s modern, aspirational geometric custom font with Kellogg’s flowing cursive that’s more effective in conveying nostalgia and family? Or how about swapping Kmart’s approachable, commercial-ready, rounded sans-serif for Kodak’s bold and photographic modified slab-serif? These brands will simply lose their identity. Remember, your typeface is your brand’s voice made visible. 

The symbol K in your logo must feel like no one else can own it. You can modify (even slightly) the K’s angled arms or add unique terminals to make a lettermark that’s unmistakably yours.
